The second edition of LANXESS Community Day brings together 20% of the employees in Brazil

About 200 LANXESS’ employees and partners got together on April 14, 2012, for volunteer work. More than 1,200 people were benefited in 1,600 volunteer-hours


LANXESS Community Day 2012, held on April 14, 2012, brought together about 200 employees from all the business units in Brazil to work in charitable institutions in the states of Pernambuco, Rio de Janeiro, Rio Grande do Sul and São Paulo.
 
On this day, all the employees involved carried out voluntary activities simultaneously in communities where LANXESS is based, making a total of 1,600 hours’ work, and helping more than 1,200 children, young people and adults.
 
"The second edition of LANXESS Community Day was even better. Our employees and partners are aware of the need and we doubled the number of participants and beneficiaries," said Marcelo Lacerda, CEO LANXESS in Brazil.
 
The employees at the production plant in Cabo de Santo Agostinho and the Recife office worked with the children on Project Samuel – at the Social Life Centre, in the Pirapama neighborhood in Cabo. All 130 children, aged from 4 to 14 years, went to the LANXESS social center and spent a day organizing fun activities. The LANXESS employee also donated hygiene products to the children.
 
In Duque de Caxias, employees at the synthetic rubber plant got involved in freshening up the Teaching Community Eco Space, in the Olavo Bilac neighborhood. The space belongs to the Guadalajara high school, which has about 500 students. LANXESS’ partners played an important role in donating equipment and helping out in the activities.
 
"This initiative brought this space back for the community. There was can foster a culture of recycling, and we have our organic vegetable garden back," says Helenita Beserra, the coordinator of the space.
 
The two production units in Triunfo and the subsidiary in São Leopoldo rallied their employees to get involved in gardening, painting and small refurbishment at the Dr. João Hillebrand Municipal School, in São Leopoldo, which serves 550 children. LANXESS’ employees handed over school supplies that had been donated.
 
Employees from the Porto Feliz and São Paulo sites worked together at the Paulo Sampaio Home, which takes care of about 50 children and young people with autism and learning disabilities. The employees painted the building and donated educational toys.
 
Business partners were essential to all the activities on LANXESS Volunteer Day 2012. In Rio Grande do Sul, LANXESS was supported by Cleanning, Tintos Sinos, São Leo Madeireira, Predial Higienização and Taxi Milke. In Cabo LANXESS was supported by GR Alimentos, LC Turismo Ltda, Canil Colosso, Royal Canin do Brasil and Verzani e Sandrini Segurança do Nordeste were also involved. In Porto Feliz, Unika Turismo and in Duque de Caxias, Paulista, VW Engenharia, VLX, H.Status and Três amigos were all involved in the volunteer efforts.
