LANXESS awards winners of Green Cycle contest in Porto Feliz (SP)

Contest promoted by LANXESS selected 3 projects in the city, which will generate social and environmental impact to all community

LANXESS, German multinational company of chemical specialties, selected 3 projects winners of the Green Cycle contest in Porto Feliz (SP). Each one of those three projects will receive up to R$ 10.000,00 (ten thousand Brazilian reais or 2.885,63 American dollars), besides receiving technical assistance from specialists in social and environmental projects management aimed at environmental education, water preservation, fauna, flora, selective waste collection, recycling, reforestation, among others.

The first place went to the Reciclando com Porto Feliz (or Recycling with Porto Feliz) project, that has the goal to improve and expand the selective waste collection in the city. The intention of Recycling with Porto Feliz is to decrease exploration of renewable and non-renewable natural resources, besides contributing to city cleanliness, improving population’s life quality, increasing environmental awareness, social inclusion, landfill site life extension and strengthen cooperatives.

The project Reduzindo o consumo de água e melhorando o microclima no ambiente escolar (Reducing water consumption and improving micro weather at school environment), received the second prize. This initiative seeks to implement energy efficiency measures to ease temperature in classrooms and decrease water consumption at school environment. To do so, besides the environmental awareness work, 71 trees will be planted and faucets with a timer will be installed.

At third place is the Educando com a Sustentabilidade no Assentamento (Educating with Sustainability at the Settlement), which has the goal to solve social and environmental problems at Agrovila Community Center. To do so, besides the environmental awareness work, will be produced and planted seedlings of native plants to preserve fountains and create rain collecting systems at the community.

The three projects were selected by a technical commission formed by LANXESS environmental specialists, representatives of local governments and the press.
